Contest winner chee-uh suggested making a lace scarf with this yarn, and she was right. The thing about variegated, handpainted yarn is that it tends to get stripey and/or pool in funny ways. For this shawl I wound up using two different weights of yarn because I didn't have enough of either kind to knit the whole thing. I'm pleased with the results, though; the lighter yarn gives it a nice soft edge. You could, of course, knit the entire shawl in a single type of yarn, and many different weights would work.

I got mine for Christmas when I was eight; a Samantha, one of the earlier ones before they Victorianized her hair and skin. She's currently wearing an outfit (one of many) that my mom sewed for her.

I recently saw a sketch of a Turkish costume with this nifty cross-in-an-oval motif going down the pleated front, and long bell sleeves nipped in by cuffs. This is how those two things translated to a toddler cardigan for my little turkey.

I tried one more tweak to this after yesterday's post, and although the finished washcloth still had a few lumps, a wash and a good blocking fixed them. Callooh callay! So if you were thinking of making these as a gift, I'd recommend blocking them first.
