Weeks Forty-Six, Forty-Seven, Forty-Eight, Forty-Nine, Fifty, and Fifty-One: A Wee Nativity

I Have a Plan

And now we are all caught up.

Below you will find six patterns (Mary, Joseph, the manger, Baby Jesus, a donkey, and a dove) comprising a toy nativity set. They aren't meant to be fancy; these are for chubby fingers to squeeze and tiny mouths to drool on. This is a good project for using up odds and ends of yarn. There is a lot of knitting in the round involved, and also a fair amount of i-cord.

Yarn: Exact yarns aren't listed because in many cases I'd misplaced the original ball band. They are all either wool or cotton and range in weight from sport (the donkey, the dove, the baby, and Mary and Joseph's arms and heads) to worsted (Mary and Joseph's clothes, the manger) to thick-and-thin (the hay). You shouldn't need more than 20 yards of any single yarn.

Supplies:
  • 4 US size 5 double-pointed needles
  • polyester fiberfill
  • tapestry needle
Gauge: Gauge is not that important. Use needles that give you a reasonably tight fabric (so there's no fiberfill escaping) and you should be all right.

Finished Measurements: Mary will measure approximately 4 inches tall; Joseph will measure approximately 4.5 inches tall; the manger will measure approximately 3.5 inches long; baby Jesus will measure approximately 2 inches tall; the donkey will measure approximately 4 inches long (not including the tail); and the dove will measure approximately 1 inch long.

Symbols and Abbreviations Used:
